The tomato, star of our summer plates! After some information on plants, it's time for the practical workshop! Everyone will make their own tomato seedlings from heirloom seeds chosen for their good adaptation to the region. A promise of pretty plants to transplant after the ice saints, and production for the summer! Participants will leave with their seedlings and all the advice they need to grow tomatoes successfully. At the heart of the Landestini Beaumont Urban Farm orchard, participants will learn how to plant fruit trees, with the crucial question at the heart of the workshop: which fruit tree for which type of soil? The importance of varietal selection, grafting and more will be discussed. Then it's off to the planting: each stage in the planting of a fruit tree will be explained, with an exchange of best practices and pitfalls to avoid, from the choice of variety to staking. What exactly is biodiversity? How does it play out in the vegetable garden? Contrary to preconceived ideas about rodents invading and destroying crops, biodiversity, complex and varied, plays a fundamental role in the health of the soil and the vegetable garden. At the Landestini urban farm, this workshop allows you to discover the natural refuges that are useful in the garden: explore the pond, the low walls, the wasteland and even... the compost heap! At the end of the workshop, you'll install a summer hedgehog shelter, a precious asset to any garden. Fertile soil is the foundation of any productive vegetable garden! This is the basis on which the Landestini Clermont-Auvergne Urban Farm produces its vegetables. And to do so, it uses agroforestry and permaculture. But what is fertile, living soil? The aim of this workshop is to understand the composition of a soil, how it works, and the role of organic matter! A cross-section of the farm's soil will be used to explore notions of soil structure and texture, fertility and crop rotation. Finally, we'll focus on the different types of mulch that help preserve fertile soil, with advice adapted to the terrain!
